Once Upon a Time in Hollywood [a] is a comedy-drama film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino. Set in Los Angeles, the film follows an actor and his stunt double as they navigate the changing film industry, and features "multiple storylines in a modern fairy tale tribute to the final moments of Hollywood's golden age. Announced in July , it is the first Tarantino film not to involve Bob and Harvey Weinstein , as Tarantino ended his partnership with the brothers following the sexual abuse allegations against the latter. After a bidding war, the film was distributed by Sony Pictures , which met Tarantino's demands including final cut privilege. Principal photography lasted from June through November around Los Angeles. This was the final film to feature Luke Perry , who died on March 4,

As the counterculture movement took hold, bringing with it drugs, free love, psychedelic rock and a new attitude toward American life, norms were also changing in Hollywood. The movie industry was undergoing a transformation as the authority of old-fashioned studio executives began to be challenged by younger artists. Tarantino, whose first feature was released in , has certainly benefited from more liberal attitudes toward showing violence in film.

Back in November, Quentin Tarantino laid out a possible career trajectory for Rick Dalton, his fictional cowboy star played by Leonardo DiCaprio in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood , after the events of that story came to an end. In a recent interview with The Wrap , Tarantino said Rick has been on his mind quite a bit since the film came out.
